Tips on Continuing Your Physical Recovery While at Home

All of California (and most of the United States) is on some level of lockdown in an effort to limit the spread of COVID-19. At Daneshrad Law we are doing our part in trying to slow the spread of this deadly virus and staying home and making ourselves available to our clients on a remote basis. As a Los Angeles personal injury lawyer, I am here to help with your legal and financial recovery following a serious accident but what about your physical recovery when you can’t go to your physical therapist or gym? You can do more than you think while at home, you just need to get a little creative!

Three At-Home Physical Therapy Tips Following a Personal Injury Accident

Consistency is one of the best things you can do when you are recovering from a car accident or other serious personal injury accident, but that can be hard when the place you usually go is closed for the foreseeable future. Here are some tips to help keep you on the path to recovery at your home:

  1. Telehealth coverage: Many insurance companies are offering their same health insurance coverage to work with an approved physical therapist remotely so give your insurance company and desired physical therapist a call to learn more about how this works, how much it will cost and get a schedule together that works for you. Depending on your coverage, this expansion of telehealth coverage can also apply to other aspects of your recovery, including therapy.
  2. Purchase the physical therapy gear you need: For many, their physical therapy needs involve things like medicine balls, light weights, and resistance bands—all of which can be purchased online and don’t take up too much room at your house. You can get a lot of the rehab tools you need to keep things going while your normal places of therapy are closed. This is also something that you can likely get reimbursed for in a personal injury settlement and ultimately a great investment in your health routine at home.
  3. Make sure you have an ergonomic workspace: Are you working from home now? Make sure that your home workspace is as ergonomically sound as possible since these minor adjustments to things like your computer screen placement and chair can have a major impact on your body. Also, make sure you are taking necessary movement and stretching breaks throughout your day.

This is certainly a unique and challenging time and while not ideal, you can and should continue with your physical recovery. With a little research into telehealth and a small investment in your home gym and office, it is possible to continue in a positive physical and mental recovery following your personal injury accident. Keep yourself on a workout schedule similar to the one you were on before the shelter in place orders came into effect and hold yourself accountable to getting it done!

We wish everyone the best during this trying time. Stay healthy!
